Flu Complications


The most common complications are viral or bacterial lung, nasal cavity, middle ear inflammation, chronic non-infectious diseases, and rebound, exacerbation. Less common flu complications are heart muscle, brain, nerve inflammation, which can be fatal.
Flu is 7th leading cause of death in 1999 and 2000.
In the USA around 20,000 – 40,000 people die each year from flu complications, in the UK this number is slightly lower with around 4,500 deaths anually, but this number rises to about 12,000 during the flu epidemic.
